It is my opinion that SI would lose quality with the introduction of such a button.

Barbara, Can you give a couple of specific examples of how
SI would lose quality with the introduction of an Ignore Button?

TIA

First time I have to disagree with you Barb. I don't think it a matter of being weak willed. Anything that will speed up my browsing, without lessening my content viewing, is in my opinion, an extra I would welcome.

While the NEXT button does the trick, it still requires the page to load, and then the next one also. An ignore button would save those two steps. Just as I place filters in my email program to discard certain types of email, so would the ignore button, if provided, make my life a little bit simpler and more efficient. God knows we all need that.

I just don't see where the presence of such a button would lessen the SI experience. At least my SI experience isn't IMPROVED by seeing certain posts from our resident mental defectives.

I'm open to any further argument against one, but I think it's a good idea. In fact, I made the request in this thread about 6-8 weeks ago, I think.

I did want to add that I also think that an ignore button, if provided, should also alert the poster that he/she is being ignored. If enough people ignore a certain poster, perhaps societal control would be exerted over the poster, thus perhaps changing his/her behavior for the better. Well, maybe not, but just a thought.

Did I just grub a post? I guess I did...

An easy to use filtering mechanism would be nice on SI. I like the way DejaNews works. Queries can be done on author, date, subject, group and/or exact phrase matching. SI is still in the stone age in this respect. Some information on SI is lost because SI does not provide the means to get at it.

SI seems to assume their users have a very short memory or is it SI that has the short term memory?

Lachesis.
