<<Japan proposes G7 meeting on world economy--Nonaka

TOKYO, Aug 31 (Reuters) - Japan's Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi proposed to Britain's Prime Minister that deputy ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) meet to discuss global economic issues, including the Russia crisis, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiromu Nonaka said on Monday.

Nonaka said Obuchi made the proposal during a telephone conversation with Blair on Sunday. ''He (Obuchi) asked Blair, who is currently the chairman of the G7, that a meeting, to consider holding a meeting, possibly a ''sherpas-level'' meeting,'' Nonaka told a news conference. 'Global economic conditions are getting more severe. G7 nations should keep a close contact with each other, given problems facing global economies, including Russia's economic issues,'' Obuchi was quoted by Nonaka as telling Blair.>>
