John:

>>Hey Arnie: My son in law speaks well of the functionality of the NXTL phones and how they are used in dispatching trrucks in their transmodal operations around Oakland. But he says that the NXTL is very unresponsive when it comes to equipment service calls. Are these things maintained by reps. or by the company.? What is their recourse when no one gets back to them in 2 or 3 weeks?>>

If I can chime in with Arnie, Nextel service has become in some respects, a "club network" - you have to know the buttons to push in your area. We have a direct Nextel rep and the service has been outstanding. But, I too, have heard about service problems which take weeks to resolve.

It doesn't hurt to lean on an indirect now and then, but I find the best service comes from direct reps. They are just more focused on the customer.

Somewhat related, but not central in nature, is a problem I am having with coverage here at home. The DC is a little flakey sometimes. I called Customer Care on my own per advice from my Nextel rep and within 2 1/2 weeks an engineering tower agent called to tell me they were in the process of installing a new tower nearby. The service is still flakey, but I called again this week and they did acknowledge they are working on finishing the tower. Generally speaking, the attitude of the service agents operating the phones have been very pleasant.

That's it.......
