<<I was responding to a comment that said that there were people out there who said that we had only just seen the tip of the iceberg. Comments given gratuitously like that have to carry with them the responsibility of what they mean. Anyone who feels that what we have seen is only the tip of thje iceberg has in my view to a duty to explain exactly what that means...snip! ...it implies a decline of an order of magnitude greater than that and that in my view would represent a financial disaster that would cripple the hope, plans and expectations of tens of millions of people and so while we everyone is entitled to his opinion it is equally incumbent on those on this thread who would hold such views to be quite clear about the consequences.>> Limtex: Since you are referring to my post #14313, let's start with what the post actually says. I made a comment that what we are seeing overseas MAY be the tip of the iceburg. The "may" signifies there is some chance that this is the case. Perhaps "might" might have been a better word. I don't think there is any reason to debate that this is a possibility nor is there any value in going into further detail about what this might mean since it's obvious - things might be, or might become, worse than what they appear to be right now. If you read today's paper, you likely found news supporting the premise that the overseas situation is not yet resolved (understatement). "Tip of the iceburg" is an old saying indicating that all might not be seen at this time; there might be more revealed over time. Again, the possibility that there may be additional, but unforeseen, effects on the world economy and the markets is a reasonable statement. The bottom line is nobody on earth knows with certainty how this is all going to play out. Each makes their best assessment and acts accordingly, taking full responsibilty for their decisions. For many, it's simply too hot in the markets right now and they've decided to step out until they can get a clearer picture. A perfectly valid choice. Please do not read more into my post than is written or do so only at your own risk. I have no more idea what tomorrow, next week, next month or next year holds for us than anyone else. Good luck to you, Limtex, whatever your choice may be. ...Tim
