Driving Down the Highway in my Compaq
The Feller told me it was a "Cadillac,
Has More power than any other"
So I bought one for my Mother

Here we sit in Houston's rain
And I'm purely not a man to complain
But the roof is leaking and I'm Frantic
Stuck aboard this Pfeiffer Titanic

The Austin Bullet went whizzin by
Folks drinkin Champagne, made me cry
Laughing and jokin and counting their money
Can't figger out what they think's so funny

How did I ever make such a blunder?
Goodby Y'all, we're going under!

Gary,
Hi!!! Thanks so much for the link...very very much appreciated...

Most would not think so much of an add...but, the initial line Dell throws out to the prospective candidates has me drooling...challenging anyone to join them on the ride directly to the top...
Of course, a little advertisement and reminder of historical significance: 'WHEN DELL INTRODUCED THE POWER EDGE SERVER LINE JUST TWO YEARS AGO, NO ONE THOUGHT WE COULD MOVE TO THE #2 SPOT IN U.S. SERVER SALES THIS QUICKLY, EXCEPT US. NOW WE'RE ABOUT TO ATTACK THE STORAGE MARKET IN THE SAME DIRECT WAY...

May, I remind all... Michael has told us their storage units will be priced 50% below the other competitors....What also should be of significance here was an independent survey done by Meta Group..... it was reported that 50% of all businesses will not do business with Dell since they could not offer every line of technology...the quote I remember off the top of my head was close to this : "DELL HAS PREVIOUSLY LEFT HUGE SUMS OF MONEY ON THE TABLE"......looks like this is about to change :o).... I might also add when Robert Williams gave us the briefing after the Metric12 Tour....I asked him: "Will the Data Storage still be ready for shipping in Sept.?".....With a broad smile...his answer was: "Yes".....My My My.....looks like the third qt. earnings could have something in them some of the "experts" aren't expecting..<<gg>>
Can you imagine Dell getting in the door with 50% more of the businesses out there??? Any wonder why I love Dell??
DELL IS WITHOUT A DOUBT...........THE NEXT DELL.

Best, Kemble

My rumor mill says that Dell hired Vic Mahadaven, a 12 year CPQ veteran who headed up CPQ storage before the DEC merger, to develop their storage business. He lost out to the DEC storage team in the merger and left CPQ in June. If true, this will be an interesting group, Vic is a dynamic and charismatic leader who had great loyalty from his troops. I had heard that the storage group would be built in Houston, not Austin, but it looks like Austin based on the ad.

Enterprise storage is a hard market to break into, Dell would need either an acquisition or a large investment to make this happen.
