Does anyone believe fundamentals matter. With the big bucks being forked over for the TBR subsidiaries, we should start to see some pick up in business prospects as early as first quarter. I would believe these companies would want to get a return on their investment asap. With the huge cell phone backlog in SP, I would foresee max effort to resolve it before the competition get entrenched.

RE: the budget deficit. How much will the cap inflow from the TBR sale impact the deficit? Aren't Electrobras and Petrobras also scheduled for sale? Isn't Brazil a net importer of oil and as such shouldn't low oil prices help their situation- holding down prices and reducing deficits.

I see all the pundits on TV bad mouthing Brazil's overvalued currency, but none seem to address the fundamental issues with respect to TBR nor these factors which can help the economy.

Am I off base?

Don

To the thread, on an optimistic note, I've been very impressed by the recent policy moves and public comments by Brazilian public officials. In stark contrast to braindead moves by Hong Kong and Russian officials, Brazil seems to be making the best of a bad situation.
