Old News with new twist-from Nekkei BP and Xinhua News Agency.

New twist is the additional information I think,if not what the heck.

Dell Computer Begins Direct Sales in China
August 24, 1998 (BEIJING) -- Dell Computer Corp. recently began direct sales of personal computers and other products in China.
Morton Topfer, vice chairman of Dell Computer, said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua that the company will have nine locations for direct sales in major Chinese cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Xiamen.

Customers can make purchases and request technical support via toll-free, 24-hour hotlines or by shopping at a virtual store on the Internet.

Individual and corporate customers can receive Dell's built-to-order service that is uniform around the world, according to Topfer. They can choose from extensive configuration options.

Industry analysts predict that the direct computer business will generate strong incentives in China's computer market, since cheaper computers with the latest software are more attractive to potential buyers who have limited financial resources.

Jim King, sales and marketing vice president of Dell Computer (China) Co., Ltd., said the Dell products available directly to Chinese customers range from desktop and notebook personal computers to servers.

The Dell China Customer Center located in Xiamen operates the manufacturing, sales and telephone services.

David, I too remember last Oct. and the late night financial shows trying to analyze the situation and calm investor concerns and fears. By the way, the S&P futures are going up and down all evening. Look at the Asian markets that are now opening. HK down big time, Japan hanging on to a slim gain, same for Korea. Here's the link:

With today's announcement from Russia, I expect that tomorrow should be an interesting day. If Russia hadn't made their announcement today, I had expected our markets to rally. If nothing more than a relief rally...now I'm not so sure.
