My own 401K allows daily money movements and per paycheck changes to the split. My husband's the same. I think customer demand has pushed them in that direction as 401K investors have gotten more sophisticated. My previous employer changed plan administrators earlier this year, from one that allowed only monthly changes to one that allowed daily changes.

I'm likewise too lazy to scour the Internet looking for industrywide totals. Anyone motivated?

RO: 68% of 401k plans allow employees to change their allocations on a daily basis. Eighteen percent use quarterly. 75% of large plans (more than 5,000 employees) use daily. These numbers are based on a survey by KPMG released this month. They also jibe well with my own experience and other numbers that I have seen.
