What IBM is doing is using Java in an attempt to usurp Wintel's dominance in the computing world, not make the world more "open." INTEL and IBM might as well announce thier secret war now, it is becoming more than obvious. from www2.techstocks.com

That would be one Reginald Middleton, posting here Feb. 26, 1997. INTEL and IBM war on Wintel made no sense to me at the time, of course. But now that Intel's proper place as lackey junior co-conspirator has been revealed, I guess it's understandable they might be chafing a bit. While Microsoft must be free to innovate (in the intimidate, imitate, integrate sense anyway), the freedom to innovate doesn't extend to Intel, much less anybody lower on the food chain. In the conventional sense of the word, anyway.
