I notice that you conveniently ignore Malaysia, Indonesia, North Korea, and Vietnam. Indonesia, for instance, is facing severe civil unrest driven in part by the (large) population's inability to afford food. Even the other countries are looking at a sharp drop in per capita GDP in dollar terms. You might be able to afford food if your income dropped by a third or more, but you wouldn't be real happy and you wouldn't be likely to run out and buy an expensive American car anytime soon.
