I'm rather new to this area. Where does Coyote Sys. rank compared to the other companies in this area? Here's the latest press release form Coyote.

Coyote Technologies Demos Carrier Voice/Fax IP Solutions

PR Newswire - September 01, 1998 07:45

Enables Service Providers To Optimize Legacy, IP Networks; Carrier IP Gateway Improves
Bandwidth Efficiency By 75%

NEW YORK, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Coyote Technologies, a subsidiary of Coyote Network
Systems, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: CYOE), is demonstrating voice and real-time fax carrier-class
solutions showcasing its Carrier IP Gateway and its DSS Switch in Booth # 728 at the Telecom
Business '98 Conference and Exposition at the Javits Center.

"Our goal is to provide carriers with cost-competitive solutions that enable them to be successful," said
Daniel W. Latham, president and chief operating officer, Coyote Technologies. "Our scalable
carrier-class IP gateway and switching solutions enable switchless resellers, CLECs, IXCs and ISPs to
enter new markets with revenue-generating services. The Carrier IP Gateway allows service providers
the flexibility to route traffic over the traditional public switched telephone network (PSTN), Internet
Protocol (IP), Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), and future networks for optimum efficiency."

The Carrier IP Gateway solution is a scalable, open standards-based IP platform that enables telecom
service providers to seamlessly route traffic over traditional circuit-switched and packet-switched
networks. The Carrier Gateway IP system combines the high bandwidth utilization of an IP link with
8:1 compression, improving bandwidth efficiency by up to 75%.

The Carrier IP Gateway solution enables flexible alternate routing of voice, fax, and data traffic over the
Internet, intranets and virtual private networks. When used in conjunction with Coyote's DSS Switch,
the Carrier IP Gateway scales from 8 T1s to 80 T1s, supporting up to 1,920 compressed voice
channels. The Carrier IP Gateway communicates with virtually any Class 4 or 5 switch via inband
E&M signaling.

Telco-grade availability, 99.99%, is a result of redundant control processors, redundant/hot swappable
power supplies, as well as virtual route around capabilities.

The Carrier IP Gateway compresses, packetizes, and decompresses traffic between the PSTN and IP
networks. The unique Load Balancing Server functionality manages the IP traffic and provides alternate
routing capabilities. A patent is pending on the Load Balancing Server.

Coyote's DSS Switch provides access to the Carrier IP Gateway solution. The DSS Switch is
designed for central office, tandem, international gateway, value-added services, and Internet access
solutions that enable telecom and Internet service providers to enter new markets and generate new
revenues. Flexible, scalable and open architected, the DSS Switch scales from 100 to 10,000 lines and
operates as a stand-alone switch or in conjunction with products provided through Coyote's Select
Partner Program, including ATM technology. Virtually any Class 4/5 switch can provide access to the
SSA/IP Gateway solution.

Carrier IP Gateway Availability and Pricing

The Carrier IP Gateway will be in field trials during the third quarter 1998 with American Gateway
Telecommunications (AGT) with shipments beginning in the fourth quarter. Fax capabilities are planned
for first quarter 1999. Pricing is dependent upon configuration and volume. AGT is a carrier's carrier
for international long distance services. Based in Houston, TX, AGT has contracts for more than 31
million international minutes monthly to 11 countries originating from its New York City-area gateway.

VocalTec Introduces Internet Phone Lite Software For Carriers and Service Providers

[[All,

We keep seeing enhancements like this one and the NetConnect product the other day by eNet and IDTC to the PC-to-Phone and PC-to-PC models by leading vendors.

(see Message 5599817 ),

I'm inclined to think that as the human interface improves to this model, and as processing speeds and the availability of reliable bandwidth increases, this genre may begin to lose its stigma.

Especially for information/knowledge workers. Walk into any trading/dealing room nowadays, and what do you see, anyway? You see folks nailed inextricably to a screen, wearing headsets. What do you think?
