After having cleaned myself with a roll of TP, I was filled on a bid at 11. Unbelievable! At this level THQ should use their cash to buy stock which then they can use to make acquisitions later on when the stock goes up.

<<The perils of owning a small cap stock in today's market.>>

That's why I was afraid to buy any THQI outright but dipped a gambler's toe into the option pool and bought 10 contracts at 15/16, which are now asking 7/16. I'll likely get more at the latter price tomorrow, if I can, but who knows where the common might settle.

A really interesting small cap and scary object lesson is illustrated by last week's debacle with Agribiotech (ABTX). The SEC produced one arcane accounting change regarding the date when earnings from acquisitions should be booked under certain conditions. The alteration will affect this rapidly growing company for a single quarter, changing an expected $.04 in earnings to a $.04 loss. But there'll be no modification of any real money going to the treasury. (Months ago the co. decided to take this particular accounting route anyway, but beginning on 7/1/98 instead of the previous qtr.) The shorts grandly distorted this info., causing a panic rout and sending the price from the 16's last Monday to an 8 1/8 close on Friday.
This sort of nasty shenanigans can undermine any small company. That's why it's dumb to place all your eggs in a single basket, even though that basket looks terrific. There can easily be a rogue elephant out there that can mash it.(ABTX, by the way, closed up in today's awful market, suggesting that the panic fear is washed out. I bought several K toward the end of today's trading.)
