Bob, don't think I've seen a market taken down so fast before, stocks that took months to rise gave up all their gains in a week or so. I posted the market was making a rounding top in early May ... a few stocks as LU, MSFT, AOL, PFE have now returned near their levels at that time. Except in May the potential for a recession next year did not seem as likely.

But even if one were investing for the long-term, it is not clear investors who bought in April-May hedged or took the ride down again. For if I had invested in LU in the low 70's then, I don't think I would have sold near the highs and the stock would have retraced half way down before I realized what was going on.
