DULLES, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 31, 1998--

AOL To Be a Premier Internet Service on New HP Pavilion Home PCs, Making it Easier Than Ever for HP Customers to Access AOL

America Online Inc., (NYSE: AOL) the world's leading Internet online service announced today a multi-year agreement with Hewlett-Packard company, America's fastest-growing maker of home PCs, under which it will be easier than ever for HP customers to sign up for and access AOL through AOL's prominent placement on the desktop of new HP Pavilion PCs.

In addition, AOL will be one of the primary Internet online services offered on all new HP Pavilion PCs.

This agreement will allow users of HP Pavilion home PCs to access a customized co-branded version of the AOL service easily by clicking on an AOL icon on the desktop, or front screen, of certain models of HP Pavilion PCs.

This co-branded version of the AOL service will include an HP icon on the AOL toolbar and links to sites chosen by HP within the AOL "Favorite Places" folder.

"We are increasingly seeing that consumers are buying computers to go online, and this agreement indicates that HP is committed to giving consumers what they want -- the most convenient and comprehensive Internet online experience in cyberspace," said Jan Brandt, President of Marketing, America Online, Inc. "This multi-year relationship with HP is a key step in reaching the new audiences who are just now buying computers to begin exploring the Internet. We are delighted to be working with HP."

"Because online access and e-mail are primary reasons for purchasing and using a home PC today, our new HP Pavilion PCs are specifically designed to help our owners get and stay connected to family and friends, as well as access entertainment and information available online," said Harry W. (Webb) McKinney, general manager of HP's Home Products Division.

"Providing easy-to- use, customer-friendly solutions like AOL to meet consumer needs is one of the reasons we enjoy the highest customer loyalty among retail PC makers."
