Addi,re:"laughter". I need to learn how to laugh after this onslaught.
If I were brave, I may just kill myself not selling and holdon the
cash. I know it's no use to look back, we were planning to unload
most stocks before September. It's sad if one plans to do something,
got lost in the hurdle and severely punished. Also the timing
and severity of the downturn is worst and earlier than we anticipated.

BTW, do you drink Pepsi, or eat Frito-lay. Please says YES.

Addi - Sun will be a leader in the ride up - count on it.

Sun was firing on all 8 cylinders and hobbled only by a weakening Asian market yet achieved record revenues, profits, margins, shipments in the past fiscal year. It has a record backlog going into Q1. Sun has the best year to year growth of any systems company (im not including Dell for obvious reasons that there business model is composed of distribution and assembly not systems technology). Most of its competitors were hobbled by massive aquisitions, inventory glut (Compaq, DEC), confused business plans and weak product lines (HP, SGI, IBM), and general loser-hood (NCR, Sequent, Data General, did i mention Compaq?).

Merced is far into the future - widely delayed with even Intel admitting that McKinley may be the 64-bit architecture which finally challengees RISC.
NT 5.0 is a glorified Netware when and if it arrives. With the internet doubling in size every few months and everyone from ISP's to small web storefronts understanding what it means to run 7 x 24 - Sun is becoming the leader in providing these systems. Sun's competitors are weak and getting weaker - substituting systems integration for differentiated technology. The next Java or JINI will not come from HP - a cheaper monitor maybe, but not competive advantage that is derived from inventing rather than reselling technology.

In 1999 1/2 of Sun's ERP installations are going live. This means that all those pilots that were sold with SAP, PeopleSoft, Oracle, Baan are going to be demanding servers, storage, services, etc at a record pace. Sun has a product line from mainframe class (E10000) to workgroup (E250) - a $10,000 machine to a million dollar + machine - theyve never had this before in their history. Sun has a replenished Workstation line that is price competitive to Wintel. Sun is attacking on all fronts with Storage, Embedded devices, Java, Software, javastations - etc. While Sun haters will scoff at any of these efforts - they are and will continue to gain momentum for Sun. hey microsoft paid $5 million for their Java license - not bad for the bottom line.

Sun has never had as strong a product line in as many different segements as they do now. Their management is experienced and have done more things right than wrong. Im not losing an ounce of sleep over Sun.

Addi, where are you? I know you've been living in semiconductor purgatory for a while, but I hoped you'd return to the sunshine for a while and tell us what you think of Sun's new Solaris 7, jini and if you think the perception of Sun is about to turn. Your comment's and insight I find invaluable.

Sun is supposed to officially present jini and vendors in New York in December. This sounds great for embedded systems, which in the long run is also a great catalyst for the semiconductor industry.

Do you feel that Solaris 7 will be the beginning of the "street" recognition of Sun's ascendency over Microsoft in terms of who is taking us to the real "road ahead"?

Hope to hear your current thoughts on Sun,
Michael
