Hi, Len

The private network (CyberNet - BBN from GTE) costs $2.00 per hour and has local dial-up numbers, many of which are ISDN compatible. Otherwise, you need 56kflex type modem to connect. Also, where there is no local dial-up connection, a toll-free 800-number is provided which costs about $8.00 per hour (but the $2.00 per hour does not apply, I am told).

I haven't used it for trading yet because my regular ISDN line has been adequate so far. But, it's nice knowing the private network is available for backup use. It's supposed to be a good as the dedicated frame relay connection, which would be comparatively cheaper if both were used full time. But, with frame you need to buy the router and do a one year contract with WorldCom, or pay even higher rates.

As the internet gets busier and busier, and worse and worse, I think the trend will be to go to private networks for trading. If one is trading often and profitably enough to justify frame relay, the BBN private network is probably a good alternative and worth considering.
