I wouldn't be surprised if Motorola runs into all sorts of
problems in the CDMA rollouts. Also, are they coming out with
dual band/dual mode or just PCS CDMA? IMO, CDMA is the right
technology for wireless communications and Qualcomm has about
2-3 year lead in CDMA technologies over other companies.
As far as I understand, other companies which make CDMA handsets
and systems buy the chips from Qualcomm. Motorola and Lucent have
been trying to develop CDMA handsets without using Qualcomm's chips
and have run into product delays. Nokia may be the only company
who is making their own CDMA phones (but I hear the Nokia 2180
also has various problems).
