Re: Storing CD's on HDD's

I do it.

I have (a few) friends that do it.

I find that having certain reference materials just a few clicks away augments my productivity by a meaningful amount:
1. Automap Streets Plus
2. MS Bookshelf 98
3. MS Developer's Library
4. VB Booksonline

And certain others that get traded in and out depending on what projects I'm working on.

That said, I also have 30 gigs of drive space (and growing) distributed through 4 machines. So I'm not quite your typical case <g> but I thought I'd disprove your hypothesis of zero people copying CDs to HDDs by counterexample.

It's rare but it's out there, and it will be increasingly now that 8 gigs costs two hundo -- and falling.

BTW I think it's pretty obvious that DVD will be a huge bonanza for HDD demand.
