Charlie Tuna: I love the smell of napalm in the morning!

It smells like victory! - Apocalypse Now

Yes I am familiar with the movies you mentioned and I do get the point. Whilst we wax metaphoric lets do some Dragnet detective work.

Just the facts M'am. From the July highs to yesterdays close, hows about these apples:

Dow down ~ 20%
NYSE Composite down ~ 25%
Russell 3000 down ~ 26%
Nasdaq Composite down ~ 27%
Russell 2000 down a whopping 31%

We won't even discuss the semiconductor index? Will we?

By most standard measurements we are in a bear market. This is the broad context all stock investors must consider when purchasing equities. Bear markets end. The $64,000 question before us is when will this one end? Experience has shown me that certain sentiment indicators work very well in indicating a bottom is in or close.

Taken together they are:

The volatility index
The put to call ratio on the SP 100
Mutual Fund cash levels
Bull vs Bear investment advisors

I freely and openly admit this is not science. I don't care if I get in at the exact print of the precise lows, all I need is to get close. Truly this is not science, this is BUSINESS. In business close is sometimes good enough. The above data will come in soon in all their fullness, and I will act accordingly. You have been an extraordinarily astute contributer to this thread and I have come to respect your opinion. I salute your calls on IDTI. Best of luck to you, and keep on postin'.
