Japan has a small but extremely competent defense force. I would bet my last dollar that they are wide awake and totally focused on
North Korea. North Korea is bankrupt and racked by famine.
In their current condition N Korea would be making a serious mistake
messing with Japan. Japan also has a very efficient spy network running in North Korea. They probably know more about what's going on there that the North Korean generals do. If Japan's reaction seemed low key is probably because they were not impressed. It doesn't take
much technological expertise to hit the Pacific Ocean with a missile.
