Way past THUD. I think I broke something this time

Well I for one am impressed with your understanding of the Afghan resistance and how it played into our situation today.

Now, what are we watching to make some money today? DD again

The Market...

Doug:

Excellent background post...

For me, Japan remains the key to what will eventually happen in the world markets, including ours... With the current people in power handling the macro economic issues as if they were Tinker Toys, the world's third largest economy can cause many rumblings around the world...

What you've done in the past made sense in timing your market entries and exits... This time may not be the same... We are in a worldwide Deflation that seems to effect both hard assets and equities...

I think we are in a BEAR market that will give us a number of quick rallies within the context of an overall downtrend in prices... That's why I'm going to use big down days as a signal to move money into the S&P Index funds during those afternoons... My plan will be to sell the following afternoon for a 1 or 2% gain... Then wait until another big down day or until market breadth improves before making a longer term commitment on the Long side... As long a Advance/Declines and New Highs/New Lows remain sick, the market cannot sustain an advance... And... Don't forget the 13's Indicator... : >

Geez, Doug, you are also a historian and a politician!
Take a look at DCTC. Holding year low nicely in this stormy weather. There are positive news for this company and I see only way up from this point. But who knows what the market will do. I bought some last Thursday, I bought some today and still not sure that this is a bottom. Now DELL even sweeter than in the morning. What do you think about AMZN? The end of the bubble, or it will recover? Michael

Russell 2000, It appears that with another good day, both the
7 dRSI, and the 13 dRSI might be indicating an upturn.

Wish I knew enough to know when it was coming down.

Y'all that want to day trade the S&P500 index but don't want to fool with the options need to look into SPDRs (stands for S&P Depositary Receipts, pronounced spiders). Symbol is SPY, trades on the AMEX. It's an S&P500 unit investment trust that trades just like a stock and has lower trust expenses than your average index mutual fund. Since it trades like a stock it has it's own supply and demand dynamic and can move a little more or less than the index, but usually not very much (up 4.23% today vs. 3.86% for the S&P500), kind of like a closed end index mutual fund.
amex.com
(can you believe that URL! If it doesn't work just go to amex.com and click the "SPDRs and WEBs" link.)
There's also one for the S&P Midcap 400 called Mid Cap SPDR, symbol MDY.

Dougr,
Care to comment on "Beer as a Safe Haven"?
fnews.yahoo.com
Seems to me something is/was up over at Coors (ACCOB), nice little +10% BO today and immune, so far, to "The Bear". Is it too late for a play on that one?
TIA....Alski
