I agree, a stock buyback will improve the EPS number and improve the quality of the asset by reducing the shares outstanding. But IMO, there are better strategic uses for the $250+M. This cash is extremely attractive to any potential suitor. Combine this positive cash flow with positive earnings quarter after quarter, and the deal can be accretive to a suitor's bottom line over a short period (possibly less than 1 year). This will create a win-win merger deal and the Market will reward both companies.

PAIR's stock price will move up soon. The RBOC contracts (SBC and Bell Atlantic) winner will be announced soon. Per the analysts' reports, PAIR is in the driver's seat with both. Again, I am predicting each win will bring about 2 points to the stock price (assuming we don't have another Black Monday when the news is released).

All indications are that PAIR is meeting, and possibly beating 3Q projections. This will be a good quarter. Earnings will be in line and may beat the street number ($0.17). This is another opportunity for the stock price to rise.

With the stock moving up, there will be little selling pressure, just profit takers.
