I don't believe they have "lost" anymore than I have "gained" since neither of us has sold. If they have sold, they were not long term investors.

You seem to confuse gambling with risk. Long term investing is not risk-free, but that does not make it gambling. The longer the investment is held, the more the price will reflect the underlying business, instead of the whims of the moment by a minority of shareholders.

Zenith is out of business. Their business failed. Coke has thus far not failed. Gateway may or may not fail.

My investment is based on the belief that Gateway will not fail in the next 20 years, but will prosper. The fact the price will go up and down thousands of times between then and now is of no concern.
