Kernel of the day is what makes Linux good. It is not stagnant. When solaris came into being employees of SUN started leaving. There were better solutions. Solaris is NOT more stable that the last stable kernel of Linux. Au contraire. My ISP has run Solaris on 10 boxes for the last 5 years. He is as conservative as a snail with bifocals. His last three boxes were Linux. Two years ago he snickered at the name. Reason. Networking features no other Unix had. Linux has been invited to certify by POSIX.
