That is a strange and unpredictable situation, I believe. But in a down market I think the brokers will be less flexible on forced close outs of margined longs. I was short on IOMG (IOM) a few days early on the spike to $66. I was down ~ $200K and the broker called me. I gave him some BS about I have 3 days to pony up - it was a rather miserable conversation. The 3 days passed and the rain came. I closed out about a week later for $50k profit - the hardest 50 I ever made. -nfg-

And I don't short on margin anymore. -g-
