Gil, I don't know who your full service broker is, but I think that is illegal, unless you either signed a consent form or your margin call expired. I know on the latter, they can be ruthless and just start whacking at will if you don't contact them.

I have arrangements with my full service broker as to what to sell off first and so on if I ever need to sell off for a margin call. But that's the only way I think they can sell your holdings. Maybe some one here can clarify this, or perhaps you might want to contact an attorney. But I would be mighty pissed to come home and find out that I was sold out because someone was looking out for my best interests.
