Re: Life on the front lines Got this copy of a memo sent to employees at a municipal organization, a scene that is undoubtedly being repeated all over America today. [Note: edited to protect the innocent] FYI and a warning. Both Charlie and I have experienced Y2K problems this morning due to moving to 9/1/98 (the start of a new fiscal year, FY99). Seems like some programs are doing a range check against a two digit date year, less than current fiscal year - 1 (98), equal to current fiscal year (99), and greater than current fiscal year + 1 (00). The last check fails where, for instance, 98 is greater than 00. To alleviate the problems we've had to quickly [move remediated but untested code] to production. The word of warning comes in because I have no idea what's going to happen during tonight's processing. This is real-life. Imagine all those organizations that haven't even begun to fix their Y2K code. Scary. - Jeff
