Mohan,
Hi!!! Re: NEWS FROM CHINA...

You gotta believe Dell released this again due to this onslaught...
But, I hope they play it like Hound Dog .....over and over and over...Dell IMO should leave no opportunity aside to explain and further elaborate on their plans in China...I know everyone is aware of thing being my long long awaited dream post...I just hope I keep hearing about it for a long long long time...
Mohan...can you even figure what this market will do to the stock?? I realize some interesting figures have recently been realized most probably in coordination with these China announcements... With regards to the recent comments by Legere and Mort Topfer...how about a guess?

Best, kemble

Chinese version Windows 98 Released.

Hi Kemble:

Like the man said:
"Sales of Dell products in China are still less than US$100 million, but they will grow by 100 percent in the next three to five years, said Legere."

Hummmm lemme see, don't know the exact sales figures for Dell in China, all they say is it is less than US100 million.Assuming it is only x million today and at 100% growth in 5 years we could have some nice change in sales from China alone. You know me I'll take it,I'll take it.<ggg>

I don't know how much this will add to Dell's stock price, guess we have to get Pat,Jim,Garbriel or Paul or someone to work on it.

You think the following news will do anything to the PC sales in China??(As you know most of the Chinese do not speak English.)

Windows 98 Released in China

ASSOCIATED PRESS

BEIJING (AP) -- Microsoft Corp. has launched its Chinese language version of Windows 98 in China and said three leading Chinese computer markers agreed to pre-install it in their desktop lines.

"The pre-installation of the Chinese version of Windows 98 is an indication that our cooperation with local partners has entered a new stage," said Michael Rawding, regional director of Microsoft Greater China.

Microsoft believes the use of pre-installed software will cut down on software piracy.

The computer makers installing the latest Microsoft operating system are Legend, Founder and Tontru.

Microsoft released the English language version of Windows 98 on June 25.

I seem to remember the first time I saw this the sales in China were 'tens of millions' and the growth rate was 100% per year for the next 3-5 years. The one you posted implies higher sales but muddies the water as to the growth over the 3-5 year period. I believe the intention is 100% per year. $100M * 2^5 = $3.2B, $50M * 2^3 = $400M.

Good morning Mohan,

It is estimated that China's PC market will be four times what it is today by the year 2002, with some 10.6 million units on the market by then.

These numbers imply that the annual growth will be around 41% for the entire Chinese market. If Dell holds true to form we might expect that its actual growth will be 3-4x the growth of the overall market, or between 124% and 166%.

No wonder Kemble is drooling!

TTFN,
CTC
