BTW, did anyone catch a tiny article in the 08/31/98 WSJ regarding the IRS selecting VRSN for a pilot program. I couldn't find a URL or any press release regarding it so I'll summarize. (Perhaps someone with a WSJ on-line subscription could post)

The article states VRSN is to supply technology designed to test the use of digital signatures on income tax returns filed electronically. CEO Sclavos said the program will last two years. If successful, Sclavos said the IRS may begin wide-scale use of the concept for tax filing in Y2K. Financial terms were not disclosed.

If the IRS sees this program as viable, this could mean serious dinero for VRSN. I think the market might have felt the same way. Through yesterday's debacle, VRSN finished up an eighth.

Regards,
P
