Puff (et al),

Regarding the problems alot of you have been mentioning with your services, I use two without much problem. My IRA Rollover is in Schwab ($29.95 /trade) and extremely reliable. Yesterday their service was slow in early am, but shortly after, they eliminated their standard "account balance" banner that seemed to be bogging it down a bunch; their service speed improved dramatically. The only problem I had was a Stop order of Dell at 115 for 600 of which only 500 executed at 115, other 100 were "lost" for 30 minutes and executed after I called 30 minutes later at 111ish.

I also use Datek for daytrading ($9.99/trade) and only problem was that for an order to sell at market, I didn't receive confirmation. I called and they said some orders were "misdirected" and I would need to cancel and replace. Not a happy experience as my order was to buy Dell at 108 and I missed a rise to 112.

My solution in BOTH of these cases in the future is that if I don't receive confirmation in 1 minute of my buy/sell, I will cancel and replace. One minute or less confirmations for these services is routine and other than the two occurrences mentioned above, they have proven very reliable.

Don't forget the saying "You get what you pay for." I might pay more for Schwab, but to have flawless executions for my larger orders, it is well worth it.
