A friend of mine told me of working on a 770 KV line taking power from labrador to new york. the gradient was so steep that it could kill birds who flew through it. Blood is a good conductor and the moving conductor with the speed and the huge volts per meter gradient would knock them from the air. Some lived, some died from the fall, quite a problem, quite a problem on some flight paths.
