It's a question of priorities. I see altogether too many lives around me that while eminently "correct" from a religious perspective, are dry and tasteless. I suspect the emphasis that organized religion places on divorcing the spiritual from the material has something to do with it, as does our obsession with propriety. There are an awful lot of American adults who seem to feel that their dignity would be irretrievably compromised if they were seen playing in a sandbox with their kids. This, to me, is very sad.

Those experiences are common to all who choose them. Too few do. The thought of dressing my kids up in penguin suits and dragging them to church on a Sunday morning gives me the shivers. We do our worshipping in the great outdoors, and I seriously doubt that anyone's moral growth is compromised.
