Lee, re point #1: assume 5-10% of my mutual fund holdings are in cash. Assume 10% of the holders call up at 3:00 and say sell. We would get a big sell-off in the last hour of trading. 8/31/98 experienced just that IMHO. Did not make the news though. Now assume 90% of the mutual fund holders made the call. I doubt all the fund holders get paid.<

I don't believe much of this instant fund shifting is happening (based
on my own survey of mutual fund holding friends and neighbors). Some
wait for the quarterly statement, others may check in the paper on Saturdays. I have been unsuccessful in my efforts to start them
worrying about their investments hourly - the way I do.
