Internet companies' burn rate could singe investors in down market
msnbc.com

"Amazon.com has enough cash on hand currently to last for three full years at its current burn rate. But this company is already battling for customers with rival book retailers like Barnes & Noble, and faces very large future cash outlays to diversify into new fields of Web commerce where it might find an edge. That means Amazon.com's burn rate is likely to accelerate sharply in the coming year, even as cash grows scarcer."
