Peter and all: for notebooks, I suggest giving the auction sites a good long look. Superb deals can be had with a little patience. High-end manufacturers need to liquidate old stock fast when they bring out a new line, and auction sites are often the best way to do this. The only catch is that you don't usually get a no-restock-fee return policy. In early May, I picked up a new NEC 6200MX--complete with a 3 year warranty, upgrade to 64 meg ram, 3 gig hard drive, PCMCIA 56K win modem, and great 13.3 1078x768 TFT screen for $1599 at www.dealdeal.com . The "catch" was that it uses the 166 MMX processor, rather than the 200 and up speeds that were then being phased in. Good other sites include: www.onsale.com (I've picked up a bunch of stuff there, and have had good luck.) www.ubid.com (Less traffic, some great buys.) Good luck, Dave

The only reason I mention Transmonde is posters to the laptop news group all voice positive messages about Transmonde Customer Support. They all also have high end laptops for $3000.
