The God Pod is the moniker coined by employees for the world headquarters building on the EDS campus in Plano. Go see it or drive by, if you have the chance. It dominates the north Texas skyline (of course you can watch your dog run away for three days up there, so it dosen't take much). Eloquent legacy for Mr. Alberthal. The nickname says it all.

Now, Les is a superior individual who made an enormous stretch when he grew EDS from 5 to 15 billion in revenue. Ten years ago he was preaching that EDS needed to get ready to be a 25 billion company. I think that he just ran out of ideas or out of gas.

BTW, I'm wondering from where the shareholder lawsuit will come, that will protest the $35 mil. Of course, Perot still has his $750 mil from GM, so don't hold your breath.

Anyway, the key to EDS turnaround is from the presidents of the SBU (Strategic Business Units). These are the delivery channels to the vertical markets. SBU's are the market-facing organizations that market, sell, and deliver .. it's where the revenue comes from. My guess is that about half of the 35 or so SBU's are now led by guys with less than 5 years of EDS experience. This is a good thing as these folks are coming from the industries to which they are selling and delivering, and can look at their SBU with a different eye than someone who grew up in the SBU or EDS. SBU presidents also are the prime target for headhunters since an SBU will have +200 mil in revenue and probably some global reach... about the size of most publicly traded corporations. I speculate that some of the reason for a new spate of corporate offices at EDS (see recent press releases) was to retain some of these type of people after some sweet deals had been offered to them from outside.
