Subject: Unisys and USTI......Why I think it makes sense.......Just a recent development Body of Message: Unisys Awarded Contracts Valued At $165 Million From Defense Information Systems Agency For ClearPath Enterprise Servers, Software, and Disk Storage Upgrades McLean, VA, September 1, 1998 -- Unisys Corporation announced today that its Federal Systems unit has received contracts valued at $165 million from the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) to provide 24 Unisys ClearPath enterprise servers together with operating system software and 10 EMC 5700 Symmetrix disk storage sub-systems. The equipment will be used at the consolidated DISA Defense Megacenters (DMCs) in Montgomery, Alabama; Ogden, Utah; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and San Antonio, Texas. The Megacenters support key Department of Defense functions including logistics, personnel and finance. "This new technology will give the megacenters the ability to simultaneously consolidate legacy workloads while providing open processing capability," said Joseph Santamaria, vice president and general manager, Integrated Government Solutions, Unisys Federal Systems. "At the same time, the increased reliability and scalability of the new equipment will significantly reduce the total cost of ownership for DISA," he said. The Unisys ClearPaths Enterprise Servers, -- models HMP IX5600 and HMP IX5800 -- replace approximately 70 legacy systems. The ClearPath HMP IX server has a CMOS processing complex that includes Intel Pentium and Custom Enterprise processors, allowing users to run legacy software as well as Microsoft Windows NT and/or Unix operating systems. The EMC Symmetrix 5700s, providing approximately 7 terabytes of storage, will offer full data redundancy through disk mirroring.
