3Com and Citrix Premier Industry's First Thin-Client/Server Remote
Access Solution; Total Control Application Reduces LAN Traffic and
Improves Performance - BW, 08:06 a.m. Sep 02, 1998 Eastern

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 2, 1998--3Com Corporation
(NASDAQ:COMS) and Citrix Systems, Inc., (NASDAQ:CTXS) today
demonstrated the industry's first thin-client/server software solution, which integrates
3Com's Total Control(TM) remote access platform with Citrix's MetaFrame(TM)
software, at Thinergy(TM) '98 in Orlando, Fla.

Deployed at the edge of the network, the solution provides mobile users and
telecommuters with fast access to thin/client server applications.

Traditional thin-client/server solutions operate on network servers, consuming local
area network (LAN) resources to serve applications to remote users. By enabling
Total Control remote access platforms to host MetaFrame software on the
Edgeserver Pro card running NT4.0, the 3Com/Citrix solution provides
thin-client/server services from the network's edge on a single platform -- reducing
the use of LAN bandwidth and speeding application delivery for remote users.

"3Com's Total Control solutions bring intelligence to the edge of the network in
keeping with our company's vision of pervasive networks," said Katherine Sawyer,
director of sector-solutions marketing, 3Com Carrier Systems. "This innovative
solution creates a new system for accessing data and various applications that vastly
enhances remote computing performance while reducing demand on local area
networks."

In four short months, 3Com and Citrix working together through the Citrix Business
Alliance program, developed joint marketing plans where Citrix/3Com resellers would
integrate the individual components of the remote access solution. Extensive
research by 3Com indicated that combining the benefits of Citrix thin-client/server
software with 3Com's remote access platform would enable both companies to
market a solution to help customers get greater performance from their existing
enterprise infrastructure. Primary beneficiaries of this solution are Fortune 2000
companies.

"Citrix is the industry leader in thin-client/server software," said Barry Davis, director
of alliance marketing at Citrix. "It was natural for us to team with the No. 1 provider
of remote access systems to develop the industry's first thin-client/server remote
access solution. This is a testament to the success of the Citrix Business Alliance
program, and evidence of the positive results that come from two companies making
a significant commitment to each other." About Thin-Client/Server Computing

Thin-client/server computing is a model in which applications are deployed, managed,
supported, and executed 100 percent on a server. Thin-client/server computing offers
the benefits of better manageability, access, performance and security, reducing the
total cost of application ownership. Client devices, whether fat or thin, have instant
access to business-critical applications via the server -- without application rewrites
or download. Thin-client/server computing facilitates rapid application deployment to
enable organizations to gain a technological competitive advantage.

It also can help maximize return on investment by leveraging existing computing
infrastructure.
