Heretic! Infidel! Are you suggesting that there has to be a reason for the government to make a regulation? How dare you suggest such a thing. The bureaucrats will have their revenge! Just wait until you renew your driver's license. You thought your last picture was bad..

Seriously, this regulation is covered under the "Air Carrier Access Act" that is supposedly like an Americans with Disabilities Act for airline access.

Someone e-mailed me a link to a story about this very subject in today's WSJ. The link is about 50 feet long, so go search for the word "goober" if you want to read it.

This regulation is supposed to protect the one-tenth of one-percent of the population that have peanut allergies from being discriminated against. I want a law that protects me from people who attempt to carry their entire wardrobe on the plane in carry-ons.

DOT official mis-read "restricting leg-room" as "restricting legume"
