NT saves $ on Bay purchase:

From Bloomberg Forum:

"Northern Telecom Ltd. (NT) rose as much as 2 1/8 to 53 1/8(finished at $51.6875). Chief Executive John A. Roth told the Bloomberg Forum that the company was able to trim $1.7 billion off its purchase of Bay Networks Inc. (BAY) because of the stock market slide and that the company will save more on goodwill charges. The company's shares also rose as this is the last day to buy Nortel common stock and receive the $0.075 a share third quarter divided, payable on September 30th."
