Hey Mark,All of the above statements, especially phrases like "independently dependent", are just phancy ways of saying that it is necessary to lose ones individuality and to give up control over your own decision making prowress. both of those atributes are god given attributes and are central to a persons personal makeup and the very essence of their soul. (Mat 23:25 ) "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. (Rom 2:6-8) God "will give to each person according to what he has done." To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. (Gal 5:13 ) You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature ; rather, serve one another in love. (2 Pet 1:5-7) For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. Mark, God has not taken any of your freedom to choose away from you. You can choose to walk away from Him and He will let you. I call that self indulgence. As far as your individuality is concerned, I think Emile is saying also that Americans have a "brand " if you will, of "individuality" that makes it hard to see right from wrong. But it is one of secularism and does not have much to do with Christianity. Take for example PK, which we have talked about before. Do you understand why this became an important movement? Men had no idea how "independant" they were becoming, until this movement. It brought about some very real and important changes in a lot of men, those seeking God. It made them accountable . Accountable to their God, to their Christ, to their home congregations, to their wives and to each other!!! Don't you see the value of this all the way around? It did not take away any freedom, no on the contrary, it GAVE them freedom to express how they feel without fear of "the world" coming down on them. They had support. You name me a business or group or anything had claims it needs absolutly no support. Support gives me the freedom to worship God Almighty freely. No one took my individuality away. BUT I certainly cannot claim to be able to save myself.... dan
