Did the WSJ article take into account how screwed you are outside of a GSM service area?

Happens a lot here in the states. "world roaming" won't call me a towtruck when the phone says "NO SERVICE."

Very important. CDMAOne providers remind us of this problem with considerable humor and levity.

If you pay close attention, you might also realize this will be the stumbling block UMTS will have in the US. No IS41 compatibility and no economically competitive way to add AMPS roaming hardware to it.
