They are simply trying to understand whether there will be big tax loss selling (which can be guestimated by knowing the acquisition date and price).

Hmmm... In order to sell stocks for tax losses you usually need a few winners that you are looking to offset. Given my portfolio of biotechs right now, I'd be hard pressed to sell any at a gain.

My only consolation is that "investors" who bought amazon at its peak are finally getting their just rewards.

Thanks for your terms of endearment DanO. I did call XOMA IR, left a message for E. Martin which she never returned. Once again thanks for your queries and subsequent posts, you're obviously a real class act.

YES there will be tax loss selling! Wouldn't you sell in 1998 after the DSMB news (assuming the trial is not stopped) and try and buy the stock back in early 1999 (ahead of the news in March 1999)? Especially since most of the folks are in Xoma at much higher prices.

Finally, what can Xoma do about it? Why ask the question if there is nothing that you can do?

Thanks for making the call to XOMA IR.
