Hi Len,

Like you, I sometimes dislike the junk mail I receive in the mail or the spam I receive via email. However, sometimes I get something I like or something that helps me. Unfortunately, I see no way of eliminating the unwanted stuff without eliminating the valuable stuff.

I also agree with with you about bandwidth and internet congestion issues, and I wish the internet was more reliable than it is now. On the other hand, I am reluctant to advocate censorship or restriction of email or preventing certain companies from advertising their products and services. I guess I was disappointed to see Scott single out poor Mr. Berber to criticize for the email spam problem when we all know it is done daily by many, many well-meaning individuals and businesses. I doubt Scott criticizes everyone who sends him email. That would certainly keep one rather busy.

I humbly submit, though, that just as we all feel we have the "right" to freely use the internet for our own personal reasons, including trading, others have an equal right to use the internet to promote their business objectives. Think about all the email we get from Netscape and Microsoft. They certainly believe they can use the internet to promote themselves. I agree with you that I would not be favorably impressed by a judicial candidate advertising on the net. But, isn't that really a double standard? Maybe tacky, but certainly not evil. Who of us has the right to determine who may use the internet and who may not? Who has a good, valid reason and who does not?

Otherwise, I definitely respect your position and your right to disagree, and I am glad we can all disagree and remain friends. My apology if my response to Scott seemed arrogant or mean-spirited. At least we're not arguing about MBT and CT now, and that's refreshing. <g>
