That's a lesson that I have not yet decided to heed. When the market crashed in the fall of 1997 my portfolio had risen 9.1 times its low value of the early months of 1996. That meteoric rise was made possible by full use of margin. So did I gain or loose? When all was said and done I am sure that I gained, but I gave back a bunch.

So here is my new plan: Move from my current equity position to above 65% before borrowing more money. I am going to play it safe during my "Golden Years" as there is according to Paul Engel no checker job for my wife at Wooolworth.

Thanks to all for your response to post #63794. One correction: The HP80 calculator vintage is 1973 not 1983. Great calculator still going strong, and easy to use,
