Late yesterday, PERIPHONICS CORP said it has received an order valued at about $1.4 million from a major U.S. brokerage firm. The provider of products and services for call processing solutions said that the systems ordered include large vocabulary speech recognition technology that allows the brokerage firm's customers to get stock quotes by telephone, using spoken requests. Periphonics shipped the majority of the order in its 1Q ended Aug. 31. (Reuters 06:26 PM ET 09/02/98)
