Oracle, Silicon Graphics to Work on Joint Products

Oracle Corp., Redwood Shores, Calif., and Silicon Graphics Inc. said they
would work together on products that transmit digital video signals into
homes over computer networks. Oracle said it chose the computers of SGI,
Mountain View, Calif., to use in developing its new Video Server software.
The product will allow TV signals to be transmitted into living rooms over
the high-capacity cable and telephone networks that are expected to become
available over the next several years. The collaboration is the first major
undertaking of a joint business unit formed by the two companies in June.
