Don...try apples to apples, i.e. are you saying that buying gold for $35 in 1970 and selling for $800 in 1979 was a "bad" investment? Let's see where DELL is in 10 years from today relative to gold. It may surprise you that many DOW components from 1929 don't even exist today whereas gold is still here.

Good Luck.

ps. I agree that buying DELL 2 years ago and holding till today was a better investment than doing the same with gold. However, don't assume that trend will continue.

Don, There is no argument that holding gold over the long term has been a terrrible investment. However, at those times when gold has mounted a sustained rally, there is no other investment that goes up as fast. (I'm talking about gold shares now) I can see that you are happy with your choice and I am happy with mine, but you must remember that gold is at historical lows, while something like DELL is not. Interestingly enough, I am as pessimistic about the future of DELL or most other computer tech stocks as you are about Gold. We place out different bets, that's what makes a market.

Don,
Why do you bother posting or reading the info on this thread. IBM went way up then crashed . It is back up now big time but your logic would not have bought in before the rise.
It seems to me you're just feeding your ego and likely know very little about technical chart analysis of gold or read the many of the articles concerning the short positons. I am not a dooms dayer either, made 45% in 6 months on gold in 1996 and am looking for another opprtunity to re enter. If you don't have anything worth while to contribute other than just another unqualified opinion then move on.
And yes I do beleive in the US gov't holding gold reserves for future generations. Hopfully not ours.
