Ashcroft is supposed to be a "Reagan" Republican, and I think we will hear more from him in the future.

Just my opinion, but Ashcroft doesn't have it. He'll be viewed as too petty and partisan. The only guy with mass appeal in congress on the republican side is John McCain. That's why the nominee will be a governor, IMO.
