Else, the next UpTrend Line on my chart dates from early 1995 - it's around the OEX ~430 area. Though the crash(es) are led by the NF.X - Financial Sector, the most disturbing thing to me is the collapsing RLX.X - Retail Sector, Dwight. We've been existing so far without a heluva lot of capital investment spending; o.k., so semi-equip and oil service and machine-tools and commodity-cyclicals have been going nowhere. But, hey! Mr. and Mrs. American Worker have plenty of jobs and USD to spend down at the consumption centers. Life goes on! There is an exit ! Buy those Consumer-Feeders; buy Drugz; buy Banx; and, buy them BIG TechStox and ride, Sally, ride! Well, No - I don't need a 400 Mhz CPU or more RAM or more dots on my screen to run Windows, and my 56K modem is still the fastest available, and my ISDN line is still 128K - but what the hay, I'll buy a copy of Win98 to play with, and a new DELL or an APPLE or something. Right. But you know, all kindsa turmoil in the world, and my 401(K) is down 20% from where it was last month, and they're laying off workers on the TeeVee. I survived down-sizing... I wonder if I can survive out-sourcing? Maybe I'll just hunker down here in the good old USA: my 1995-96 rig runs all the software I want to run, just fine. Put another shrimp on the barbie, mate - it's *Labour Day. ThanksGod I Got A Job and, I can't believe* it's not butter. Well that's not good, mes amis. Sans capital spending *and* disposable income, "ohhh... they ain't no life no-where", says Jimi. This jobs report (Friday?) if it shows employment / wages going down, that ain't good news (as in an inflationary-control-think scenario), that's bad news, as in who's gonna buy all dis stuff ? "Not me!" says the duck in Japan. "Not me!" says the horse in Germany. "Not me!" says the oink-oink in Peoria. Then there's the DRG.X - Drugz... some kinda safe haven, right? Like, it's defensive or something, right? Well, it's off ~15% from the ~715 highs at ~610. What if, to paraphrase Sartre - there is no exit ? Bummer, man. I'll score across the border, you know ?
